IPTV on LG webOS.
LG webOS is more open than Tizen for IPTV apps. The Content Store has real options. The Magic Remote is surprisingly good once you know a couple of its quirks.
01
webOS basics.
LG Smart TVs from 2014 onward run webOS. It is not Android, but unlike Tizen it has a more accessible developer environment, which is why more IPTV apps exist for it.
Update webOS before you start. Settings → Support → Software Update. webOS 6 (2021+ TVs) has the best app compatibility. Older webOS 3 and 4 versions work but have fewer apps.
The Magic Remote is the pointer-style remote with gyroscope. It lets you click links and navigate menus like a mouse. Inside IPTV apps, you either use it as a pointer or switch to button mode. Both work once you get the feel.
02
LG Content Store.
Press the Home button on the Magic Remote. Navigate to the LG Content Store tile in the launcher bar. Inside, use the search function. Search “SS IPTV” or “IPTV Smarters.”
SS IPTV is the most widely available. It has a clean webOS interface, supports M3U playlists and XMLTV EPG, and handles Dolby Audio passthrough. It is free with optional in-app features.
03
Install and sign in.
- 01
Install from Content Store
Select SS IPTV or IPTV Smarters and install. The app appears on your home launcher after install.
- 02
Open and add playlist
SS IPTV: tap the gear icon → My Playlists → Add Playlist → M3U URL. Paste your provider's M3U link. Or choose Xtream Codes and enter server, username, password.
- 03
Wait for channel list to load
First load takes 30-120 seconds depending on playlist size. Do not close the app while it loads.
- 04
Add EPG URL
In SS IPTV: Settings → EPG → External EPG URL. Paste the URL your provider gave you. Tap Update EPG. Allow 2-5 minutes for the guide to fill in.
- 05
Test a channel
Navigate to Live TV, pick a channel, and confirm it plays. If video plays but no sound, check Settings → Sound → HDMI passthrough and set it to Off for initial troubleshooting.

Magic Remote tips.
The pointer mode is useful in menus but can feel imprecise inside fast-moving channel grids. Most users switch to button-only navigation for daily IPTV use.
Settings → Accessibility → Pointer Options. From here you can slow the pointer speed or disable pointer mode entirely. The D-pad arrows navigate IPTV apps cleanly without the pointer.
The “123” button on the Magic Remote brings up a virtual number pad for direct channel entry in apps that support it. Useful for jumping straight to a channel number.
05
External device when you want more.
If your webOS version is old, or you want TiviMate, attach a Fire TV Stick or Android TV device to any HDMI port. Switch input and you have the full Android app ecosystem on your LG display.
LG OLED panels in particular work well as external-device displays because they handle deep blacks and HDR input from connected devices accurately. Many people run a Chromecast with Google TV on an OLED for exactly this reason.
See the Firestick setup or Android TV setup for those paths.

FAQ
What IPTV apps are available on LG webOS?
SS IPTV and IPTV Smarters Pro have webOS builds available in most regions via the LG Content Store. There are also some region-specific players. Availability varies by webOS version (webOS 3+ generally has better app support).
Can I use TiviMate on an LG TV?
No. TiviMate is Android-only. LG TVs run webOS, which is a separate OS. Attach a Fire TV Stick or Chromecast to an HDMI port if you want TiviMate on an LG display.
My LG webOS version is old. Does IPTV still work?
SS IPTV supports webOS 3.0 and later. For older TVs (pre-2016, webOS 2.x), app compatibility is limited. An external stick is the practical solution in this case.
The Magic Remote cursor is annoying in IPTV apps. Can I disable it?
Yes. In LG Settings → Accessibility → Pointer Options, you can reduce cursor speed or disable pointer mode and switch to button-only navigation. Most IPTV apps work fine in button-only mode.
Does LG webOS support Dolby Vision on IPTV?
LG OLED and NanoCell TVs support Dolby Vision, and the hardware can display it from HDMI sources. Whether an IPTV stream passes through Dolby Vision depends on the player app and the stream source, not just the TV.
