Android TV and Google TV are the most flexible IPTV platforms. TiviMate on Android TV is the closest thing to a purpose-built IPTV experience. Start with Play Store; sideload only if necessary.

Before you start.
Update Android TV / Google TV. Settings → Device Preferences → About → System update. Running outdated OS builds can cause app crashes with newer IPTV players.
Connect via Ethernet if possible. On most Android TV sticks and boxes, Ethernet via a USB-C adapter or built-in port will give better 4K stability than 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Have your provider credentials ready before you start.

Play Store path.

Open the Google Play Store
From the Android TV home screen, open Play Store. Search for TiviMate IPTV Player or IPTV Smarters Pro. Both have native leanback-optimized builds for TV.

Install and launch
Install the app. Open it from the apps row. On first launch, TiviMate will walk you through adding a playlist.

Add your playlist
Choose Xtream Codes or M3U playlist. Enter your server, username, and password (or paste the M3U URL). Hit OK and wait for the channel list to load.

Sideload when needed.
If TiviMate is not showing in the Play Store for your region, or if your provider recommends a specific app not on the Play Store, sideload via Downloader.

Install Downloader from Play Store
Search for Downloader by AFTVnews. It is the standard sideload tool for Android TV and Fire TV alike.

Enable Unknown Sources for Downloader
Settings → Security & Restrictions → Unknown Sources. Enable only for Downloader, not globally.

Enter the official APK URL
Use the URL from the developer's official site. TiviMate APK is on tivimate.com. Avoid random APK mirror sites.

Install and launch
Downloader installs the APK. Open the app when prompted. You can disable Unknown Sources again afterward.

Sign in.
With TiviMate: Settings → Add playlist → Xtream Codes. Enter the server URL (with port), username, and password. The app downloads and indexes your channels. Then go to Settings → EPG and paste the EPG URL.

Remote-friendly tips.
Android TV remotes have a D-pad and voice button. Most IPTV apps are designed for it. TiviMate in particular has full D-pad navigation. You rarely need to type.
Google TV devices (Chromecast 4K, Sony Bravia) have the Google Assistant button. It works for search inside the launcher but not inside IPTV apps. Use the app's own search for channel lookup.
If you have a Logitech K600 or similar TV keyboard, it makes text entry (EPG URLs, credentials) much faster. Bluetooth pairing is under Settings → Remotes and Accessories.

What is the difference between Android TV and Google TV?
Google TV is a newer home screen layer that runs on top of Android TV. Devices like the Chromecast with Google TV use it. Functionally the same OS for IPTV apps: the Play Store, sideloading, and app compatibility work identically.
